Mrs. Olufunso Amosun
The wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, was born on the 2nd of May, 1966 to the family of (Late) Bishop Ayoade and Elder Christiana Odesanya. She started her primary education at St James Norland school in the United Kingdom and returned home to attend Yejide Girls Grammar school in Ibadan (1977-1982), from here she progressed to Oyo State college of Arts
and science for her A level education (1983-1985) before gaining admission into University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University where she bagged a BA.ED in English Education.
Mrs. Amosun also holds a master Degree in Guidance and Counseling from University of Lagos in Nigeria. The First Lady worked briefly as part of a loss Adjustment Team in Barclay’s Financial Services and New Prudential Insurance Company both in the United Kingdom in the 1990s, but her main preoccupation over the years has been one of support to her husband in his various philanthropic roles in the society. She has been an unshakable pillar of support to him by assisting in contributing to the welfare of humanity, co-ordinating scholarship schemes through the SIA
(Senator Ibikunle Amosun) Foundation and organizing the implementation of empowerment designed to assist the less privileged in the society. As the Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Amosun has contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of the less privileged in the State in various capacities.
Mrs. Olufunso Amosun is of the view that a little care for the needy in our society can make a huge difference. As a kind-hearted mother with a desire to UPLIFT the needy, Mrs. Amosun has used her present role to complement and support the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led Administration to enrich family lives and ensure the wellbeing of the people of Ogun State. She pays attention to details, maximises scarce resources and wastes no time on frivolities.
UPLIFT (Mrs. Amosun’s Foundation name) is an acronym for Understanding People’s Limiting & inhibiting Factors Today. Through her unquenchable desire to see less privileged uplifted and empowered, Mrs. Amosun has at every opportunity demonstrated her genuine commitment to understand people’s limiting factors and inhibitions and has attempted to alleviate their sufferings by embarking on various initiatives aimed at p o s i t i v e s o c i e t a l c h a n g e .
Her empowerment initiatives are aimed at giving to the less privileged and empowering them in order to be self independent and self-sufficient. The wife of the Governor has in the last one year made indelible marks, reached out to all the 20 local government areas of the State and impacted positively on the lives of the less privileged in the society, particularly women and children
through her various programmes. The first Lady’s programmes for the less privileged in the State include but are not limited to:
Mrs. Amosun is the Ogun State Chapter Grand Patron of the National Council of Women’s Societies of Nigeria (NCWS), The Grand Matron of Cooperative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED) Ogun
State Chapter, the Grand Patron of Nigeria Girl Guides Association , Ogun State Chapter, the Grand Matron Ogun State Chapter of Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), and the Grand Matron of Home Economics Teachers of (HETAN) Ogun State Chapter. She is also the Grand Patron of Immigration Officers Wives Association(IMMOWA) Ogun State Chapter, Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria(MWAN) Ogun State Chapter and Forum of Local Government Nurses and Midwives in Nigeria(FOLGONM) Ogun State Chapter respectively.
Mrs. Amosun is best described as a mother with sincere empathy to take care of fellow human beings especially the needy and vulnerable ones.
